The research that led to TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers as our primary fabric choice was driven by the realization that for many of us Fast Fashion no longer reflects our identity, beliefs, and values; gradually we understand that not only is the environment being harmed, but that the fashion industry leads us to use and trow away a lot of textile waste.
TENCEL™ Lyocell standard fibers are certified with the EU Ecolabel. The EU Ecolabel is a label of environmental excellence that is awarded to products and services meeting high environmental standards throughout their life cycle. It is worth noting that TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are derived from sustainable wood sources, and that more than 99%of wood and dissolving wood pulp used by the Lenzing Group is either certified by FSC®orPEFC™. According to TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers made from Lenzing brand it scores 34 on the Higg MSI (ref. Higg MSI database v3.4 from June 2022). The calculations are done by comparison with other fiber materials and when combined with their default fabric production, dyeing and finishing (e.g., to the point of which the materials are ready to be assembled into a product). The result shows a generic lyocell fabric receives score of 44, silk 128 and conventional cotton 88.
The benefits of TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are many and include anti-bacterial qualities and an exceptional ability to adjust to temperature fluctuations. In comparison to polyester and synthetics, there is less available moisture formed on the surface of the fiber for bacteria to grow, and therefore for less favourable environment for bacterial growth. It is soft, breathable, lightweight, and comfortable with greater moisture absorption than cotton and appropriate for sensitive skin - naturally smooth, elastic, and resistant to wrinkles. TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers has a thermo-regulating characteristic allowing it to keep you warm in the winter, yet cool in the summer. The TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are great to use throughout all year-round, and especially a good choice for fabric used on underclothing.
TENCEL™ Lyocell will also resist shrinking; machine wash using the gentle cycle, is appropriate for many garments (please read the garment care label), and drip drying is preferable to machine drying but not necessary if you are in a hurry.
